About Joyce Tarbet, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon:
Dr. Joyce Tarbet knew pretty early on she wanted to be a physician, particularly an orthopedic surgeon. Growing up as a kid she loved sports and played a lot of them. She witnessed many of her friends suffer from sports injuries and found herself intrigued to problem solve their injuries.
Sports Medicine for Multiple Pro Sports Organizations
Prior to coming to Murray County Medical Center in 2011, Dr. Tarbet practiced in Chicago for more than three decades. After completing her orthopedic residency in Montreal, Canada, she entered a fellowship in arthroscopy and sports medicine with The University of Illinois in Chicago where she continued a full-time practice. She became associated with the United States Soccer Federation, working with them for several decades, rising through the ranks to become the head team physician for the Women’s U.S. National Soccer Team.
Dr. Tarbet held various other sports team physician opportunities. She worked as an assistant team physician for two, Division I NCAA schools covering a lot of women’s sports, including softball and basketball. She also served as the assistant team physician for The Chicago Fire that plays in the Major League Soccer (MLS), and was the team physician for the Women’s Pro Beach Volleyball Team and the Men’s American Basketball Association. She also covered Professional Bull Riders events.
Orthopedics Career at MCMC Begins in 2011
After an amazing career in Chicago, Dr. Tarbet looked for a change of pace and was amazed by MCMC and the state-of-art-equipment available here in Murray County. Working in a smaller setting like MCMC, Dr. Tarbet focuses on personalized, expert care for all of her patients. She sees a variety of orthopedic cases, has extensive training in sports medicine, is passionate about trauma and enjoys joint replacement surgeries. Over the course of her time here at MCMC, she has not only established a full-time orthopedics practice but is proud to say MCMC exceeds national orthopedic benchmarks.
She loves working with young athletes who want to get back on the basketball court and football field to the elderly who desire to get back to daily activities like gardening. She also provides orthopedic care for many of the area’s do-it-yourselfers and trade workers who, by nature, are prone to more wear and tear and injuries from their regular work and weekend warrior activities.
