Seasonal Fire Safety Tips

As we get into the colder months and many people are more likely to utilize fireplaces and candles during the holiday season, it's important to remember how to enjoy these heat sources safely. Read on for some fire safety tips from The National Safety Council:

  • Clean your fireplace area on an annual basis, also making sure to keep the chimney free of any debris

  • Don't leave fires burning while unattended

  • Don't burn holiday decoration like wreaths or trees, or wrapping paper, in the fireplace

  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children, and in a locked area

  • Use flameless candles near flammable objects

  • Keep candles out of reach of children and where they can't be accidentally knocked over

  • Use a screen on a fireplace while a fire is burning
